The boutique hotel's distinctive charm stems from the vision of architect and designer James Cavagnari, who worked with local artisans to source the finest materials for the creation of 14 exclusive suites, as well as the 1564 Lounge Bar and James Restaurant , offering a memorable experience. The building that now houses The James bears the year of its foundation engraved on it: 1564. This is the year Michelangelo died, while Galileo and Shakespeare were born. Originally a convent, the building retains the original structure of the ancient Renaissance merchant courts: a simple façade, an off-center portal, barrel-vaulted rooms, and an internal courtyard that has remained intact over the centuries. Today, these ancient spaces embrace a new concept of hospitality: cultured, discreet, and deeply rooted in beauty. The entrance is a rarefied space that invites wonder. The walls, hand-painted in shades of sky and moss, are enlivened by plants that embellish the walls and reveal the soul of the secret garden.
