Some other Swiss Alpine towns seem to exist solely for the pleasure of the wealthy and glamorous, but Adelboden is less about opulence and more about the classic pleasures of a mountain town. It’s fitting, then, that Adelboden’s top luxury hotel is as substantial as it is stylish. The Brecon superficially resembles a classic Alpine lodge, but it’s in its interiors, by the Dutch design firm Nicemakers, that it begins to set itself apart, combining mid-century modernist gestures and chic contemporary design pieces with the warmth you expect from a Swiss mountainside hotel. With just 18 rooms it’s relatively intimate in size, and while it’s not a private club per se, it does feel uncommonly hospitable; the all-inclusive food and beverage policy does inspire a relaxed and flexible approach to dining and drinking. There’s a spa that’s reserved for guests only, complete with a rooftop swimming pool, and naturally all the attractions of the Alps, from hiking and biking to skiing and other wintertime adventures, lie right at your feet. 22 Rooms Style: Contemporary Classic Atmosphere: Quiet
