The ancient Greeks used the term “asty” to denote the center of a town or city. The new Asty Mykonos Hotel & Spa borrows the name, in reference not so much to its exact location — the hotel isn’t in Mykonos Town, but on a hillside overlooking it — as to its sophisticated style. Like many others in the area, the hotel is characterized by Cycladic architecture, but there’s a modern twist here: bold elements punctuate the white facade and its tiered terraces, from chaise longues upholstered in black to striking metallic light fixtures and a swimming pool lined in moody, dark-hued tiles. The interiors are a departure from the island’s white-on-white standard, as well. Rooms have earth-toned decor, boho-chic details, and bathrooms lined in deep green marble. Even the simplest room has a private terrace with a jetted tub or Jacuzzi, while suites, many facing the sea, feature private terraces with plunge pools. Loft-style maisonette suites come with two levels of living space, and the master suite has a private infinity pool and fitness room. Down by the main pool, macrame sun umbrellas offer shade on the sun-baked terrace and creative cocktails are served with dreamy water views; a great selection of restaurants and bars are a short drive or an easy walk away. 35 Rooms Style: Modern Design Atmosphere: Lively
