Lively salon discussions, warm company, and wine will all be experienced at SELECT's Night at The Gallery. Join us at the chic Artist's Proof Gallery in beautiful Georgetown as we peruse the works of two fantastic artists: David Buckingham and Nenad Zaric. Both artists will be on hand to show you their process and discuss their works in an intimate setting. This event will be complimentary to members and one guest each, with further RSVPs available for $20 each.
David Buckingham roams the windblown alleys, abandoned factories, gritty industrial areas, dodgy neighborhoods, and low deserts of Southern California in search of the cast away, the discarded, the forgotten: old 55-gallon barrels, wheelbarrows, tool boxes, road signs, tractor parts, car doors, gas cans, etc. These battered relics are carted to a dusty studio in downtown Los Angeles where they are muscled into works of art with a bewildering array of power tools and sheer force of will. All colors are original as found; David Buckingham is no painter.
Nenad Zaric fills his canvases with an inner philosophy that dredges the confrontational history of his people without sacrificing hope for a brighter future. He paints his canvases in pairs, always a dark landscape alongside a brighter composition. The stormy dark landscapes are broody ruminations on the Balkan’s tortured past. Broken fenceposts are a leitmotif in Nenad’s work, representing transgressed boundaries and lost points of contact and connection.
