Washington Capitals

In 1972 the NHL awarded an expansion team to Washington, named the Washington Capitals in 1974. The Capitals have made 21 playoff appearances, two conference final appearances (1990, 1998) and one Stanley Cup final appearance (1998). The franchise has won six division titles, and in 2009-10 won a franchise-record 54 games on its way to the Presidents’ Trophy, symbolic of the NHL’s best regular-season record.
